Quand Il S'Agit De La Vie Et De L'Amour

I just finished watching the final four episodes of Sex And The City, a show I love dearly, though one I find to incorrectly perpetuate a stereotype of perfect love. My initial reasoning for watching the show was to give me perspective on the relationship issue I'm having at the moment, the vapid dark room I sit in, not knowing whether I'm alone or in company.

Relationships are like couture; if it does not fit perfectly, it’s a disaster.

And that is true. For we know what looks great on us and what doesn't, and having worked in the industry which thrives from 'looking good', I've learnt that it doesn't matter who/what you wear, if a nameless shirt fits you well, if looks damn better than bad fitting Dior.

The metaphor enforces the notion that relationships take a lot of work. And that the chances of us dressing in an outfit straight off the rack and it fitting perfectly is very, very rare. So we must work for couture. The stitching and the countless fittings are synonymous with the idea that two people work at their relationship. They trial out what works, and what doesn't until they find that perfect balance. Personally, I am all for tailoring. Being my size, I don't have much choice, though I know that when the tailoring is complete, I feel my best. I'm confident and I know my power. Until then, it's about assurance and trust that one day, we'll get there.

So there is an outfit I have seen, and I've tried it on. It's baggy in the places where it should be fitted and fitted in the places where it should be more relaxed. But with a little work, a little trust and a little risk, rest assured it will look perfect. I never thought I'd say this, but nothing comes easy, and love is no exception. If you're a question person when it comes to life and love, one must ask...

Are you willing to work, trust and risk?

I am.

Good to hear.

Now all you need is honesty.
